Dubai E-Visa — What It Is and How to Get One

The Dubai (UAE) e-visa is simply the electronic form of the United Arab Emirates visa — in other words, the UAE visa is already an e-visa, not a separate visa type. It is obtained entirely online, without visiting a consulate; no sticker is placed in your passport, the visa is recorded digitally and sent to you as a PDF by email. Here you will learn what the e-visa is, how it works and how to apply online in minutes.

01 · Definition

What is a Dubai e-visa?

An e-visa (electronic visa) is a fully digital travel authorisation for entry to the United Arab Emirates. No physical sticker or stamp is placed in your passport; your visa is recorded electronically in the UAE immigration system and linked to your passport number. Once approved, your visa document is sent to your email as a PDF. When your passport is scanned at the airport, your visa appears in the system — it works on the principle that “the visa is in the system, not in the passport.”

Your visa is recorded in the UAE system, not in your passport — no sticker, no stamp.

02 · How it works

How does a Dubai e-visa work?

The e-visa process is digital from start to finish; at no stage do you hand over original documents in person.

1

Online application

You enter your passport and travel details and upload your documents (passport scan, biometric photo) digitally.

2

Recorded in the system

Your application is sent to UAE immigration; once approved, the visa is linked electronically to your passport number.

3

Delivered by email

Your approved e-visa is sent as a PDF by email; you can print it or keep it on your phone.

4

Entry at the airport

At entry your passport is scanned and your visa appears in the system; show your e-visa PDF if requested.

03 · Same visa

Is the Dubai e-visa the same as the Dubai visa?

Yes — they are the same thing. The United Arab Emirates (Dubai) visa is issued electronically; in other words, the UAE visa is already an e-visa. There is NO separate “normal visa” or “consulate visa” with a sticker in your passport. “Dubai visa” and “Dubai e-visa” refer to the same document — the only difference is the name.

The UAE tourist visa comes in a single form and is issued electronically.
There is no separate sticker/consulate visa to choose from.
e-visa · online visa · electronic visa — all the same visa.
04 · Delivery

How is the e-visa delivered?

Your approved e-visa is sent to your email as a PDF document showing your application details and a verification/QR code. You can:

  • Print it and keep it with you
  • Download it to your phone and show it digitally
  • Present it at check-in and passport control
  • Keep a backup copy throughout your trip (recommended)

08 · FAQ

Frequently asked questions about the Dubai e-visa

Is the Dubai e-visa different from the Dubai visa?

No, they are the same. The UAE visa is issued electronically; there is no separate “normal visa” or “consulate visa” with a sticker in your passport. “Dubai visa” and “Dubai e-visa” refer to the same document — the only difference is the name.

Do I need to print the e-visa?

It is not mandatory, as the visa is registered in the system. Still, printing it or keeping it on your phone makes check-in and passport control easier.

Is the e-visa placed in my passport?

No. With an e-visa no physical sticker or stamp is placed in your passport; the visa is linked electronically to your passport number.

Do I need to visit a consulate to apply?

No. The whole process is online; you upload your documents digitally and pay online. There is no need to hand over your passport in person.

How long does an e-visa take?

Standard applications are usually finalised within a few business days; if your trip is soon, the express option can speed things up.

What if I lose my e-visa?

Because the e-visa is sent by email you can download it again; and since the visa is registered in the system, your entry rights are unaffected.
